Amazing Athletes ranks as a top military-friendly franchise for the second year in a row

GI Jobs Magazine and recently ranked Amazing Athletes on its 2013 Top Military Friendly Franchise list – a ranking that represents the nation’s top 10 percent of franchises that do the most to recruit military veterans. This marks the second consecutive year Amazing Athletes has been ranked on the list.

The 2013 Top Military Friendly Franchise list is determined through extensive research and data collected by the Military Friendly Franchise team, including a comprehensive, independent survey of more than 4,000 franchises compiled by Ernst & Young and close examination of the survey by franchise industry experts on the Military Friendly Franchise Advisory Board.

Amazing Athletes is proud to open its franchise opportunities to military service members and veterans of all branches. The award-winning franchise helps pave the way for military veterans to become owners of their own business by offering a discounted franchise fee for military men and women, financing assistance to military veteran franchisees, and dedicating a team to support Amazing Athletes’ veteran franchise program.

“We began franchising in Carlsbad, California, which is just south of Camp Pendleton – the major West Coast Marine Corps base. Several of our staff members throughout the years have been military wives whose husbands were stationed at Pendleton. Working with them gave us a deeper appreciation for all our military families and their sacrifices. When the opportunity came up to qualify as a military friendly franchise, we jumped at the opportunity,” said Amazing Athletes founder Dr. Janee Henderson.

Along with the company’s long track record of hiring military spouses in their corporate office, Amazing Athletes boasts 10 franchise units with military veteran owners, and the youth-based sports fitness franchise hopes to expand its reach into the military veteran community long into the future.

“Amazing Athletes is such a fun and family-friendly business that we think it mixes well with veterans. Many of the traits developed through the military mesh perfectly with what we look for in franchisees: self-starters, active, dependable, etc.,” said Henderson. “Our military members sacrifice daily. The least we can do is make our company as accessible to military members looking into franchise ownership.”
Like many Amazing Athletes franchise owners, U.S. Navy veteran Robert Jackson, joined the Amazing Athletes family because he wanted to help champion the fight against childhood obesity in his community and help develop motor skills in children at an early age. While coaching youth football, Jackson noticed that many of his players were missing some of the sport’s most fundamental skills, such as simple throwing and catching. Not only did he want to develop a back-to-the-basics approach to sports, but he also wanted to do something proactive to combat a much larger health problem in America as well.

“You can teach anyone at any age these basic skills of catching and throwing, but childhood obesity was another issue and needed to be addressed at the toddler level,” he said. “Good habits are easier to mold at a young age, and as the statistics show, American kids are becoming grossly overweight with bad habits such as playing video games that have replaced outdoor activities. Combine that with bad eating habits and you have obese kids, which leads to obese high schoolers and into adulthood.”

In addition to fighting the good fight for children’s health, Jackson is also helping battle consequential issues of obesity, such as low self-esteem and lack of confidence later on in life.

Jackson said Amazing Athletes is the perfect fusion of his love for kids as well as sports.

“Having a military background and being a leader of men while in the Navy along with raising my own kid made Amazing Athletes the perfect fit for me,” he said. “Janee and Glen created the perfect program for any person who shares the same passions they display for kids and sports. During my initial visit to review the franchise system, I went on a visit to the daycares with some instructors, and I was immediately sold. The energy and smiles the kids showed on their faces during the class won me over. There is nothing more rewarding than a happy child.”
